ArtByAfricans – Return Policy

At ArtByAfricans, every artwork is carefully crafted and packaged to reach you in perfect condition. Because our items are handmade and often one-of-a-kind, our return process works a little differently from standard retail. Please read the information below before placing your order.

We Do Not Offer Exchanges

We do not accept exchanges on any items.
All purchases are final unless the artwork arrives damaged or defective.

Returns for Defective or Damaged Items Only

We only accept returns if your item arrives faulty, damaged, or defective.

To qualify for a return:

  • UK Customers: You must notify us of the defect within 7 days of delivery.

  • International Customers: You must notify us within 14 days of delivery.

If a return request is made outside these timeframes, we are unable to accept it.

How to Report a Defect

Please email us at rep@artbyafricans.org with the subject line:

Return Request – Order #[Your Order Number]

Include the following in your message:

  • Clear photos of the defect or damage

  • Photos of the outer packaging, inner packaging, and shipping label

  • A brief description of the issue

This information helps us assess the issue quickly and confirm whether a return is eligible.

Items Not Eligible for Return

We cannot accept returns for the following:

  • Change of mind or personal preference

  • Items damaged after delivery

  • Artwork showing signs of use or alteration

  • Custom, personalised, commissioned, or made-to-order pieces (unless defective)

  • Natural variations in colour, pattern, or texture that occur with handmade art

Please note: Slight variations are part of the artistic process and are not considered defects.

Refunds

Once your return is approved and the item is received back in its original condition, we will issue a refund to your original payment method.

Refund details:

  • Refunds cover the product cost only

  • Original shipping fees are not refundable

  • Refunds are processed within 14 days of receiving the returned item and completing our inspection

If the returned item is found not to be defective, we will return it to you at your own cost.

Return Shipping

For approved defective returns:

  • We will cover or reimburse reasonable return shipping costs

  • You must use the return shipping method we provide or approve

Items returned using an unapproved method may not be eligible for reimbursement.

Packaging Requirements

To ensure the artwork reaches us safely, all returned items must be:

  • Packed in their original packaging

  • Returned with all certificates of authenticity and included accessories

  • Securely protected to avoid damage during transit

We cannot process refunds for items damaged during the return journey.

International Returns

Customers outside the UK must follow all customs and shipping instructions provided by us.
Incorrect declarations may result in delays or refusal of the return.
